Under the new normal, St. Vincent School is minimizing face to face contact and physical materials handling. In this regard, various online systems have been put in place to serve your needs. Each parent and student will be given their own user account for an entire school year. To gain access however, parents must first signify their intent to continue with St. Vincent School. This intent is in the form of the Admissions Processing Fee. It is necessary to pay the Fee as this triggers the creation of your user account. The Fee is non-refundable but deductible once enrolled. This user account will be ready once the enrollment period begins. In which case, the entire enrollment procedure can be completed from your phone, gadget, or desktop for as long as you have access to internet.
Yes, because the admission process is online and cloud-based, parents who are currently abroad can begin the application of their child for as long as they have images of the required documents. Designated guardians who currently reside with the child can present the actual documents during the final stages of admissions.
For old / returning students, the entire enrollment process will not require face to face transactions. Parents can re-enroll, purchase books or pay balances from their residential or work locations, using their desktop, gadget or phone for as long as they have access to the internet.
In the Home-based Multi-support Learning System (HMLS), teaching and learning will include synchronous and asynchronous activities. Primary instruction and socialization will take place synchronously via real-time class meetings with the use of a video-conferencing platform. On the other hand, skills building and practice will be done asynchronously or on their own pace following a reasonable time frame.
To accomplish this, an online message board as well as learning materials like e-text books, online apps and resources, actual books, magazines and provisions available at home will be enlisted. Students shall continue to have use for their pencils, rulers, and coloring materials. Meanwhile, keyboards, digital cameras, earphones, microphones, and printers will serve as their basic accessories for online submissions and communication, particularly with their teacher.
Going into HMLS will admittedly be a major adjustment for both the teachers and students. This new normal will highlight more than ever, the principle of parents as partners in education. For HMLS to be a success, especially for the younger pupils, parents must be familiar in the basic operation of the various platforms that SVS will employ. This may include software systems like Office 365 or GSuite. An orientation for parents via video-conferencing will be scheduled before official classes begin.
With our joint collaboration under the new normal, we are confident that distance will not be a hindrance to providing uninterrupted academic progress for your child.
Your child will have to log in to a video conferencing application to be part of the class. This will serve as their virtual classroom. They will have to be logged on for about 30-45 minutes per subject depending on the Grade level. This will be the synchronous activity for each class St. Vincent School and all its campuses will work as a system under Microsoft. Its conferencing application is Microsoft Teams. It will be made available for all students in mid-August.
Distance learning in the 1990's was defined as the effort of providing access to learning for those who are geographically distant. As technology advanced Distance Learning was further described as the delivery of instruction in printed form and through electronic media (Moore, et al, 2011).
On the other hand, Blended learning is the combination of two models of instruction –the traditional face to face teaching and the modern technology or online Distance Learning (Graham, 2004). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become the current buzzwords of many schools. However, this term has really been used in other countries since 2002. In fact, as early as 2006, academicians referred to blended learning as the “new traditional model” (Norberg, et al, 2006 as cited in Dziuban, et al, 2018).
The traditional face to face learning, as we are most familiar with, occurs in a setting where a live teacher directs students towards synchronous learning. On the other hand, technology or online Distance Learning, which is most often used in distance education, uses various learning media. In this environment, interaction with the teacher is distributed through different media platforms, learning is self-paced, and takes place asynchronously.
Blended Learning will only be employed when either the World Health Organization or the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) together with the Inter Agency Task Force on COVID-19 declares it safe for children to attend school on a regular basis. According to scientists and health experts, the soonest time that a vaccine for the COVID-19 virus will be available for children is in 6 to 12 months. Considering the delay in distribution to the Philippines, the earliest time that SVS will consider Blended Learning is for SY 2022-2023.
Given this scenario, we want safety first for the entire SVS family. Thus, for 2021-2022, SVS will continue to implement the Home-based Multi-support Learning System (HMLS).
